Under the Sea 3’s

The little girl that got the Caillou cookies is now 3!

Her theme was The Little Mermaid, but I thought that Ariel and Flounder were a little out of my comfort zone… we came up with a cookie that is more my style, but would still coordinate well with the feel of the party.

All of the decorations were pink and purple, but I added some bubbles to go with the “under the sea” theme.

Tool Cookies

Remember this baby shower? Can you believe that this little guy turned 1 already? Craziness how time flies!

Mama had a hard time coming up with a birthday theme idea, but somehow she thought of Tools! Perfect for him!

I am so in love with these cookies.

The colors were pulled from the plates she bought for the party.

I also made the lil guy a smash cake.

Simple and easy since it ended up like this anyway:

Snow White Cake

This cake was made eggless for a girl with allergies. She was turning 3 and had never had cake because of her allergies.

I’m not going to post the recipe because I am not completely happy with it, but basically I used a recipe I found online for vanilla cake and substituted applesauce for the butter/shortening/oil part of the recipe, and there were no eggs.

I just wanted to share because I liked how the decorating part turned out.

Glad she enjoyed it!

Blue’s Clues Party

The baby that was in the belly at this baby shower (more treats here) just turned 1!

Blue’s Clues was the theme, so we made lots of blue sweet treats!

Of course there had to be cookies. These were bagged and used as favors.

20120824-201052.jpg

I made cake pops, but we wanted them to have puppy paws on them. I came up with the idea of using an oreo pop mold that I found online. I will definitely be using this technique again!

I did the paw print darker blue. I squeezed candy melts into the paw print, then tapped the tray to settle it into the mold. This also helped get all the air bubbles out. Tapping is key! Then I put these in the fridge for a few minutes to harden up.

20120824-201106.jpg 20120824-201112.jpg 20120824-201119.jpg

With the lighter blue I squeezed a layer across the bottom of the mold. Then tap tap tap!

20120824-201130.jpg 20120824-201139.jpg

I mixed up the cake pop dough like normal, but instead of rolling it into balls I flatted it into a thick pancake and cut circles out of it with a circle cookie cutter. Then I just dropped a disk of cake into each mold and gently pressed it into the candy melts.

20120827-105944.jpg 20120827-105951.jpg 20120824-201145.jpg

Then I just squeezed more candy melts around the cake and across the top, tapped it against the counter, and popped it into the fridge to harden up.

20120824-201157.jpg 20120824-201203.jpg 20120824-201211.jpg

Once they had hardened completely (maybe 20 minutes?) they came out of the molds really easily.

Look how fancy they look!!

I also made the little guy his very own smash cake… that will be forthcoming!

Fireball Frosting

This frosting is awesome.

Seriously awesome.

20120816-170316.jpg

I used my regular buttercream recipe, but substituted 1/2 the vanilla for cinnamon oil. They’re just a tad spicy, but not too hot to finish the rest of the cupcake. Or 5 more after that.

20120816-170331.jpg

I used it on plain white mini cupcakes here because I wanted the frosting to be the star. Not that it wouldn’t be anyway.

If you love cinnamon, you must get some cinnamon oil and flavor your life accordingly.

There will be more cinnamon to come soon, I promise you that.

Bridal Shower Lingerie Cookies

Last time I made lingerie it was for Valentines Day.

These were for a bridal shower! Wedding colors are eggplant and taupe. I got permission to throw in some hot pink to make them Pop! There were 3 dozen total, each a little bit different. Here are just a few of them:

Blue Baby Elephant Cookies

These adorable elephants were for a baby shower!

20120813-101510.jpg

I used the same basic design as the elephants for this circus party, but in boy colors!

20120813-101327.jpg

I’m so obsessed with these I will probably do some for my own someday baby shower. (No I’m not pregnant so don’t get excited.)

I made these lovely treats for a woman who just finished radiation for breast cancer and was throwing herself a fabulous party!

Chocolate Cake Pops…

and Marshmallows!!

20120806-141059.jpg

The pink ones were pomegranate, but ended up tasting nothing like pomegranate… I will have to try again one of these days because I love pomegranate!

 20120806-141103.jpg

I decided to try a little piped swirl for these. There were going to be a lot of guests at the party so the smaller the treat the farther it goes! I decided later that I’m glad I didn’t do the swirls with the chocolate mallows ….. :-/

20120806-141108.jpg

These chocolate ones were a million times better than the first chocolate ones I made… dark chocolate is the key!

I hope the party was as fabulous as it was sweet!

Yo Gabba Gabba Cake

Remember these cookies I made for a baby shower last year? Well this little guy just turned 1 on Saturday!!

His favorite thing is Yo Gabba Gabba, so naturally the parents went all out!

After much deliberation, we decided on one large cake for the guests, and one personal little cupcake for Baby Jude! It was his first time having sugar, and we had some dietary restrictions, so I made him a Dairy Free cupcake with Vegan Frosting… recipe will come later this week!

Without further ado, here is the cake I made for Jude!

On the sides of this tall cake I did each of the characters…

I surprised the parents and made the inside of the cake like a rainbow cake, but in the colors of each of the characters… the Brobee layer is even striped!

20120729-113429.jpg

20120729-113434.jpg

Poor little guy was exhausted after such a fun party!

20120729-113457.jpg

In case you were wondering, yes there were a lot of colors on this cake!

20120729-123617.jpg

Here is how I made the stripes for the green Brobee layer:

20120729-123637.jpg

Pour a small amount of batter into the center of the pan. With the other color, pour a small amount of batter directly in the center of the pan again, right on top the first circle. Go back to the first color and do this again, right in the center of the circles. As you add more, the layers push out and create the above ringed affect. When you cut into the cake, you will see the vertical stripes! (This can be done with black and white or chocolate and vanilla to look like zebra stripes!)

Will you be my…

…flowergirl? …ringbearer?

A good friend of mine is getting married next year and wanted to do something special to ask her little ladies/gent to be her flowergirls/ringbearer. She came up with the idea of doing a large decorated cookie for each of them. I just love how they turned out!
