Blue’s Clues Party

The baby that was in the belly at this baby shower (more treats here) just turned 1!

Blue’s Clues was the theme, so we made lots of blue sweet treats!

Of course there had to be cookies. These were bagged and used as favors.

I made cake pops, but we wanted them to have puppy paws on them. I came up with the idea of using an oreo pop mold that I found online. I will definitely be using this technique again!

I did the paw print darker blue. I squeezed candy melts into the paw print, then tapped the tray to settle it into the mold. This also helped get all the air bubbles out. Tapping is key! Then I put these in the fridge for a few minutes to harden up.

With the lighter blue I squeezed a layer across the bottom of the mold. Then tap tap tap!

I mixed up the cake pop dough like normal, but instead of rolling it into balls I flatted it into a thick pancake and cut circles out of it with a circle cookie cutter. Then I just dropped a disk of cake into each mold and gently pressed it into the candy melts.

Then I just squeezed more candy melts around the cake and across the top, tapped it against the counter, and popped it into the fridge to harden up.

Once they had hardened completely (maybe 20 minutes?) they came out of the molds really easily.

Look how fancy they look!!

I also made the little guy his very own smash cake… that will be forthcoming!

and Marshmallows!!

The pink ones were pomegranate, but ended up tasting nothing like pomegranate… I will have to try again one of these days because I love pomegranate!

I decided to try a little piped swirl for these. There were going to be a lot of guests at the party so the smaller the treat the farther it goes! I decided later that I’m glad I didn’t do the swirls with the chocolate mallows ….. :-/

These chocolate ones were a million times better than the first chocolate ones I made… dark chocolate is the key!

I hope the party was as fabulous as it was sweet!

Under the Sea Cookies

My family loves going to crab feeds… we go to at least 3 a year.

I just recently learned that crab feeds are a Northern California thing. I had no idea that the rest of the world didn’t enjoy all-you-can-eat crab feasts like we do! I’m sorry people that live everywhere else… I feel very bad for you. A piece of my heart belongs to crab. ❤

One of the crab feeds my husband and I attend each year is put on by my mother-in-law’s church. They always have a silent auction as well as a live auction to raise money, and this year I decided to make some treats for them to auction off. (I thought it would be in the silent auction, but I was lucky enough to get my items auctioned off live. A little embarrassing because my husband’s grandpa kept trying to buy them, but I know it was out of love!)

The theme of this particular crab feed is “under the sea,” and there are cute decorations everywhere of not only crabs, but fish, frogs, and starfish. I made my cookies to match the theme.

I did shells with the same wet-on-wet technique I used here. Just do lines of icing right in the wet background…

Then trace a toothpick through to create swooshes. Technical term.

I also did some fun little bubbles…

Some bright fishes…

And some crabbies of course! So glad I decided to add sparkles to these guys. It really made them pop!

Here they all are, ready for the auction!

I also made a tray of cake pops. They’re not really anything special enough for their own post. I got a little crazy with the sparkles on these but I love how they turned out!

Halloween Treats!

Here all all the Halloween treats I made. These were for our annual Halloween party and for my work potluck. Cookies also went to my husband’s work per special request. They always see pictures, but hadn’t had the chance to taste them until today!

I made Cake Pops… (These are funfetti, with some leftover green frosting from the Pumpkin Cupcakes I made a few days ago. The result was a green center to these little pops!)

Chocolate dipped marshmallows…

… and of course lots of cookies!

Pumpkins…

and I did some on sticks for testing purposes… I ended up having to do a double cookie, with the stick in between. I roll thinner than most people, and without the second cookie it was way to much of a ‘bump.’

Ghosts…

Spider Webs…

Tombstones…

Frankensteins… (who are happy!)

Bats…

Witch shoes… (which are my version of this idea from Sugar Belle)… my laces ended up soaking up some of the black from the shoes. 😦 Oh well, you get the idea…

Candy corn…

Skeletons… (from my gingerbread man cookie cutter by the way)

Cauldrons…

and a couple Boo!’s 🙂

Here is a photo of the tray my husband took to work with him:

Halloween is one of my favorite cookie holidays… I just wish I could have had a little more time this year. Moving + holiday is a lot of work! Thankfully I will have a minor lull before it gets cRaZyCrAzY for Christmas!! Which is in less than 2 months for those who are trying to block it out! 🙂

Strawberry Cake Pops

OMG Yum!

A friend is about to go back to school to Chicago in about a week. She was sad that we didn’t get to make anything while she was here all summer, so I told her to come on over Sunday and we made cake pops together.

I must have gotten lucky the first time I make cake pops, cuz I didn’t have any issues. These were much more difficult but we learned a lot so hopefully next time will be perfect again.

Lesson 1 – I think we put too much frosting in them because it was very wet. They just didn’t harden up enough and kept falling off the sticks. And they are WAY sweeter than last time. Almost too much for me to handle. Almost… 🙂

Lesson 2 – I think some of them were just too big. They started to crack while sitting upright. The smaller ones are okay, so I’ll just have to watch the size next time.

Lesson 3 – Mixing red candy melts with white candy melts does not make pink. I guess we could have just colored the white ones, but we really thought it would turn pink. Oh well.

The purple was fun.. it’s hard to tell here but it was like a neon purple color.

We made a few stars and hearts… they didn’t come out too great, I think they were just too big.

The white candy melts actually have colored dots all in them. SUPER cute.

I have a LOT of different kinds of sprinkles. Super fun. 🙂

The best part about these? I made them with STRAWBERRY cake!!
