Mickey & Minnie Baby Shower Cookies

This mama-to-be is so very special to me. We’ve known each other since first grade. We went to elementary, middle, and high school together and I introduced her to her husband, who was a coworker of mine. And now they’re about to have their first baby! It was a Mickey and Minnie themed shower, and I got to make the cookies.

I’ve made Mickey cookies once before (here) but I knew I wanted to do something different this time. And since they’re having a little girl, of course I had to do Minnie too!

Sidenote – I decided years ago that I’m not making character cookies anymore. It’s so difficult to achieve the likeness of a character and it was way too stressful. Everyone is their own worst critic, and I was NOT nice to myself when I made characters. Instead, I prefer to do details and patterns that are still representative of the character or theme – but stress free!

I did a basic Mickey… (because it’s so easy and recognizable – you don’t even need a face!)

… Minnie’s bow (which I learned the hard way is NOT actually shaped like a bow) (can you tell what cutter shape I ended up using?) …

Minnie’s heels…

…and baby onesies! The G is for Gloria. Isn’t that the most gorgeous name?!

I was so happy with how these turned out. The colors really popped and they looked great with the rest of the decor and food.

Tea Party Baby Shower Cookies

This soon-to-be mama had a tea party themed baby shower in pink and purple for her little princess.

I made teacups and flowers…

I also made more of the doggies that I made for her wedding. Her poor pup has since passed, but will always and forever be her first baby. He was honored in so many ways at this shower, and I’m thankful I was able to help with one of them. 💕

Flowers as simple as this still seem to make such a cute bold statement!

I’ve been meaning to share this for some time. I got this AMAZING cookie stamp a while back. It gets imprinted on the cookies prior to baking so it’s actually my NAME on the back of each cookie! Such a simple touch that makes such a huge impression.  This baby is due to arrive in the next couple of weeks. Can’t wait to meet her!

Tiara and Bow Cookies

My coworker and I were both pregnant together and were due about 3 weeks apart. I made these cookies for her gender reveal party. I was SO excited to find out she was having a little girl, I LOVE to make pink cookies!

Mama is ALL about the pink, fluff, girliest of girly everything. I made her bows and tiaras to go with her princess theme shower.

I love using these bows because they’re little – only about an inch and a half tall. They pair perfectly with almost anything girly!

The tiaras I made from a new cutter. I’ve made princess crowns before (here), but I just loved the shape of this one!

I had these big pink pearls on hand that I thought made the perfect jewel for the tiaras.

And while I knew I wanted them sparkly, I didn’t want them glittery… if that makes sense. Instead of glittery disco dust I decided to go with sanding sugar to give them their sparkle. I started with a pastel pink, but it just wasn’t enough to give it any color. I added a little bit of this bright pink and mixed it together. I love how it turned out! Not overwhelmingly hot pink, but brighter than just a white outline.

(Vegan) Elephant & Giraffe Baby Shower Cookies

A girl I went to school with is currently a surrogate, in her 3rd trimester with twin baby girls! Surrogacy is such an amazing thing to be able to do and I love following her story!

She is throwing a baby shower for the parents of her growing little baby girls, and asked me to make her some cookies. Only thing is they had to be vegan! I have to admit the idea stressed me out to have to find/test a recipe and everything, but they ended up working perfectly and taste AMAZING!

The vegan cookie recipe can be found here. The vegan buttercream and vegan icing recipes can be found here.

For the shower I made pink elephants and purple giraffes. Hope the mama and daddy love them!

Princess Baby Shower Cookies

These pretty pink cookies were for a friend’s baby shower. We learned she was baking up a little girl when I made these cupcakes.

I made babies similar to these, but knew I wanted her smiling instead of screaming.

And since she is going to be the first girl baby in our group, and will be SO SO spoiled, they had to be princess themed. Diamonds and tiaras. 🙂 After outlining the tiaras, I painted them with silver luster dust mixed with a few drops of vodka. It turned them from grey to silver. Much more appropriate for princess attire.

20140126-110244.jpg

I also threw in some mini hearts because they are easy and good fillers for a party when not everyone will take a larger (normal) sized cookie.

20140126-110330.jpg

These were the first cookies I’ve made in a long time, besides my Christmas cookies. (Which, for the record, didn’t get finished… and the ones I did finish never got photographed so they never got shared. Meh.) It felt good to make cookies again, but my skills are definitely a little rusty. I’m not gonna lie – there were a lot of re-dos, and a few tears shed… and my husband standing behind me reassuring me that I’m being too hard on myself and that I’m just out of practice. *sigh* I seriously don’t know what I’d do without him. ❤

Little Lady Baby Shower Cookies

A photographer friend of mine wanted some cookie favors for her sister’s baby shower. It’s going to be a girl, and the theme was “Little Lady.”

Here’s the invite, isn’t it adorable?!

Anyway, her and I agreed to do a “service swap” and she will be doing my maternity photos in a few weeks when I feel good and BIG. 🙂

We decided to do chevron on some onesies, and pair them each with a perfect little pink bow. I’m obsessed with my little bow cutter!

20130612-123922.jpg

I debated how to do the chevron design, because I wanted it clean and not a ton of outlining throughout. Especially since I outlined in pink. I decided the best route would be to go with a stencil.

20130612-123906.jpg

Unfortunately, I could not find a stencil! If I had planned ahead I would have just ordered one online, but seeing as chevron is so “in” right now, I thought I wouldn’t have a problem finding one.

I ended up buying stencil templates and making my own. I found a pattern online and printed it out, and my wonderful husband cut it for me with an x-acto knife.

20130612-123913.jpg

Then I just laid it across the cookies and sprayed it with Wilton color mist. Since the stripes had to be grey, I used black color mist and just did a light coat. (Obviously if you have an airbrush that would be better.)

Turned out better than I thought! The key was to spray exactly downward, and not at an angle – otherwise the spray snuck under the stencil and the design got a little blurry.

20130612-123932.jpg

Here are a couple that I sprayed a little too much and got too dark…

20130612-123959.jpg

And these are the last 2 that I did… the spray was running out and it started to get blotchy and messy on my poor cookies. Luckily I had made extras, so these were eaten. 1 can of color mist will cover about 50 3″ cookies like this. I’d say if you are doing exactly 50, opt for the 2nd can. You don’t want to end up with this at the end!

20130612-124006.jpg

Here are all the cookies bagged up and ready to go for the party!

20130612-124012.jpg

**A few other tips if you’re going to try this:

– Either do it outside or clear a large space. The mist gets everywhere. I’ve done it outside and it was windy and that wasn’t ideal either. Pick your battle I guess.

– Every 2-3 sets of cookies, wash and dry off the platter and stencil. You don’t want leftover smudging the next cookie.

– Make extras so you can test in the beginning, throw out any blotchy ones at the end, and play around with different shades of mist.

Beer and Babies

The men always get left out for the baby showers… so this grandma-to-be decided to throw her son-in-laws (both of her daughters are pregnant) their own party!

An anti-shower if you will.

(Please note that I didn’t say anti-baby. Everyone seems to think that when I say anti-shower.)

Of course there had to be beer…

And a little reminder of what these soon-to-be dads are going to be dealing with…

One daughter knew the sex and the other didn’t, so we did a combination of blue and pink… and I added one mystery baby for luck.

Enjoy the beer while you can guys!

Hope you enjoyed your party!

Baby Boy Cookies

I made cookies for a baby shower… the colors on the invite were grey, light orange, and baby blue.

I did the standard onesies, and tried out carriages for the first time… ya know, standard baby shower stuff… then I got it in my head to make an actual baby.

I used this design by Karen’s Cookies as my inspiration. I just LOVE the way they turned out. I don’t have the cute little baby cutter, so I used my teddy bear and cut his little ears off. The same teddy bear I used to make these cookies actually. What a versatile little fella…

I know I just posted about my favorite cookies, but I think these may have topped my list.

They took me for-e-ver… but it was worth it in the end.

P.S. Yes I know there are only 4 toes. It’s all I could fit.

Blue Baby Elephant Cookies

These adorable elephants were for a baby shower!

20120813-101510.jpg

I used the same basic design as the elephants for this circus party, but in boy colors!

20120813-101327.jpg

I’m so obsessed with these I will probably do some for my own someday baby shower. (No I’m not pregnant so don’t get excited.)
