Giants Birthday Cookies

Zach (who I made these cookies for last year) is now 7!

He wanted a Giants themed party, so I went to town with my baseball cutters.

I made the traditional baseballs and bats, as well as baseball hats for the first time.

Per tradition, I also made Z’s and 7’s in matching colors. Good thing it’s also Halloween season, I found these black and orange sprinkles that went perfectly with the Giants colors!

The jersey cookie was made especially for Zach. As soon as I brought the cookies over, he wanted to eat it immediately! **Zach actually told me later that I spelled the last name wrong. Oops!**

I also made these awesome SF Giants colored bridges, since the “bridge” is such a huge part of San Francisco, whether it’s the Bay Bridge or the Golden Gate, or any of the others.

See that SF symbol up there? I have made them before, but this time I decided to freehand it.

I started with a basic thin line…

Then shaped around it until I had the right angles and edges!

Here are all of the cookies together, ready for the party!

Girly First Birthday Cookies

I am so in love with these pink gems!

The designs were sent to me by the mama, she found them online. I just mimicked them with my own style of frosting/icing. And they turned out better than I expected!

The cake on the cake stand is identical to the cake ordered for the party.

Wine Cookies

My coworker asked me to make her some wine themed cookies for her friend’s birthday. I had all the cutters already, but I had not yet had the opportunity to use them!

I did 1/2 red wine and 1/2 white wine.

The birthday girl’s name is Rose so I came up with things on the wine labels to go with her name. The first I did a little rose, one said “Rose’s Vine,” one said “B-Day Blend,” and one said “Red as a Rose.”

Under the Sea 3’s

The little girl that got the Caillou cookies is now 3!

Her theme was The Little Mermaid, but I thought that Ariel and Flounder were a little out of my comfort zone… we came up with a cookie that is more my style, but would still coordinate well with the feel of the party.

All of the decorations were pink and purple, but I added some bubbles to go with the “under the sea” theme.

Tool Cookies

Remember this baby shower? Can you believe that this little guy turned 1 already? Craziness how time flies!

Mama had a hard time coming up with a birthday theme idea, but somehow she thought of Tools! Perfect for him!

I am so in love with these cookies.

The colors were pulled from the plates she bought for the party.

I also made the lil guy a smash cake.

Simple and easy since it ended up like this anyway:

Blue’s Clues Party

The baby that was in the belly at this baby shower (more treats here) just turned 1!

Blue’s Clues was the theme, so we made lots of blue sweet treats!

Of course there had to be cookies. These were bagged and used as favors.

20120824-201052.jpg

I made cake pops, but we wanted them to have puppy paws on them. I came up with the idea of using an oreo pop mold that I found online. I will definitely be using this technique again!

I did the paw print darker blue. I squeezed candy melts into the paw print, then tapped the tray to settle it into the mold. This also helped get all the air bubbles out. Tapping is key! Then I put these in the fridge for a few minutes to harden up.

20120824-201106.jpg 20120824-201112.jpg 20120824-201119.jpg

With the lighter blue I squeezed a layer across the bottom of the mold. Then tap tap tap!

20120824-201130.jpg 20120824-201139.jpg

I mixed up the cake pop dough like normal, but instead of rolling it into balls I flatted it into a thick pancake and cut circles out of it with a circle cookie cutter. Then I just dropped a disk of cake into each mold and gently pressed it into the candy melts.

20120827-105944.jpg 20120827-105951.jpg 20120824-201145.jpg

Then I just squeezed more candy melts around the cake and across the top, tapped it against the counter, and popped it into the fridge to harden up.

20120824-201157.jpg 20120824-201203.jpg 20120824-201211.jpg

Once they had hardened completely (maybe 20 minutes?) they came out of the molds really easily.

Look how fancy they look!!

I also made the little guy his very own smash cake… that will be forthcoming!

Yo Gabba Gabba Cake

Remember these cookies I made for a baby shower last year? Well this little guy just turned 1 on Saturday!!

His favorite thing is Yo Gabba Gabba, so naturally the parents went all out!

After much deliberation, we decided on one large cake for the guests, and one personal little cupcake for Baby Jude! It was his first time having sugar, and we had some dietary restrictions, so I made him a Dairy Free cupcake with Vegan Frosting… recipe will come later this week!

Without further ado, here is the cake I made for Jude!

On the sides of this tall cake I did each of the characters…

I surprised the parents and made the inside of the cake like a rainbow cake, but in the colors of each of the characters… the Brobee layer is even striped!

20120729-113434.jpg

Poor little guy was exhausted after such a fun party!

20120729-113457.jpg

In case you were wondering, yes there were a lot of colors on this cake!

20120729-123617.jpg

Here is how I made the stripes for the green Brobee layer:

20120729-123637.jpg

Pour a small amount of batter into the center of the pan. With the other color, pour a small amount of batter directly in the center of the pan again, right on top the first circle. Go back to the first color and do this again, right in the center of the circles. As you add more, the layers push out and create the above ringed affect. When you cut into the cake, you will see the vertical stripes! (This can be done with black and white or chocolate and vanilla to look like zebra stripes!)

Circus Birthday {Girl}

A couple days ago I posted another circus birthday, but for a boy. This time, the circus party was for a little girl.

I definitely wanted to do circus tents again, because I loved the way my last ones turned out.

20120414-214635.jpg

I recently bought a big assorted set of Wilton cutters. (Actually didn’t get too many duplicates, which was awesome! What does everyone do with all those duplicates anyway? I have a bag started..) Anyway, in it was a balloon cutter, and after seeing the balloon cupcakes for my last circus party, I thought the balloon would be a good addition to this cookie party.

20120414-214901.jpg

(If I weren’t doing these for 2 year olds, I would have stuck a sting to the back of each balloon with a dab of frosting. I figured 2 year olds wouldn’t know to pull it off so I just left it out.)

20120414-214536.jpg

I came across these adorable circus cookies by Nicole of Life’s A Batch a while back, and the mama for these cookies just loved them when I sent her the link. From these cookies I drew inspiration for the pink elephants.

20120414-214346.jpg

We also liked the idea for popcorn buckets. I had seen these by Bridget of Bake at 350 a while back, and I also loved the ones from Life’s a Batch, so I combined the ideas into something I could create with my style of frosting/icing.

For the actual popcorn kernels, I was having a hard time deciding what I wanted to do. First I tried using only icing, and planned on layering blobs to create “popcorn.” But because my icing is similar to glaze, it wasn’t holding it’s popcorn shape the way I wanted.

I scraped that idea (literally) and kind of “gave up” and turned to my trusty buttercream… just started creating my blobs. They were kind of bumping into each other and not really looking like kernels anymore.. They needed butter. Problem was, I didn’t have anymore buttercream to dye yellow for the butter. I definitely didn’t want to make a whole new batch just for a couple tablespoons needed. So I winged it and started using icing. Not something I’ve ever done before. I outline in buttercream, fill in icing, and use buttercream for details. Icing on top of blobs of buttercream? What the hell is that?

I’ll tell you. It’s butter. MELTED butter.

20120414-214849.jpg

Perfection. Accidental perfection.

Circus Birthday {Boy}

What are the chances? Two back-to-back circus birthdays for 2 year olds? One is for a boy and one is for a girl. You will see the girl’s circus birthday later this week.

I want to start by saying I LOVE the circus. I went every year as a kid. Even when I got older and didn’t yet have kids to take with me, I still loved to go. Oddly though, I don’t like clown stuff much. I don’t mind the actual clowns at the circus, but I don’t like clown dolls, pictures, figurines, etc. And I’ve never even seen It or Chuckie or anything scary. I don’t know, they just weird me out. Sometimes when I do to Chevy’s, there’s this clown there who makes balloons for the kids. She kinda creeps me out too. Maybe I just prefer a safe clown distance when they’re real.

Anyway, I didn’t make clown cookies. I didn’t have a good cutter… and what I was envisioning was not translating to paper well and not really “findable” through a google search. For some reason people think clowns in cookie form need to be wearing pointy party hats, although I’ve never seen a real-life clown wearing a party hat. Ever.

So I made circus tents. I found a few images through google search that I liked, but they were made with royal icing, so I had to adapt to my own style. Here is what I came up with:

20120409-082456.jpg

20120409-082515.jpg

I am SO in love with how they turned out!

We also did some #2’s for the 2-year old birthday boy.

20120409-082509.jpg

I bagged them up to be favors, and attached these cute little tags the mama found. It’s hard to read in this pic but it says “Thank you for coming to my party.”

20120409-082525.jpg

20120409-082531.jpg

I also made cupcakes for this circus party. There were red yellow and blue striped cupcakes with cute little toppers…

…as well as a few balloon decorated cupcakes for a special display.

and here is a picture of the whole treat table!
