Peacock Martinis

Last week I got to make cookie favors for the bridal shower of my husband’s coworker. The bridal shower was cocktail themed and the wedding colors are teal green and bright purple. (With peacock feathers!) I was so excited to make these.

I chose martinis because nothing screams “cocktail party” like a martini. Here is what we came up with:

20120402-105657.jpg

First I outlined just the glass and background, then I squeezed a bit of uncolored icing (so that it would dry somewhat clear) into the rim of the glass.

20120402-105605.jpg

While that dried, I filled in the background. I think the color turned out a little lighter than the wedding color, but I got it as close as I could.

20120402-105613.jpg

Then I filled the glass with the cocktail…

20120402-105624.jpg

Lastly I re-oulined the glass and piped on a stem and base.

20120402-105633.jpg

Tied them up with a ribbon and they were good to go!

20120402-105645.jpg

Too bad they’re not real martinis, I bet they would taste delicous!!

**UPDATE**

Here are some pictures from the party these were for!

Rio (Parrot) Birthday

For a little guy’s 2nd birthday, the theme was Rio the movie. I’ve never seen it, but it’s about a blue parrot. Looks pretty cute, I need to add it to my Netflix queue.

20120312-142924.jpg

I made Rio cookies, along with 2’s on little circles, and packaged them up similar to the bridges I did recently.

20120312-142939.jpg

I also made parrot colored cupcakes… I used the same technique for these as the rainbow cupcakes I made here and here.

So many cookies…

I have been busy busy making sugar cookies lately. Like really busy.

Just thought I would share some pics rather than go into tons of detail about everything… enjoy!

20120227-084934.jpg

20120227-084944.jpg

Above are pictures of bridges and hard hats I made. I work at a bridge building company and some boy scouts came to visit to learn about engineering. These were their take-home treats! The hard hats are trimmed baseball hat cookies.

20120227-084915.jpg

Above are some monkeys I did for a little boy’s first birthday party. Brown food coloring and I are not friends. That’s all I’m going to say about that.

20120227-085008.jpg

The circles and onesies were for a baby shower. Too many boys I tell ya, we need some girls!

20120301-103917.jpg

The California’s were for my husband to take to work. He works for a company that makes camping and tour reservations for national and state parks. California parks just opened yesterday for reservations so he thought these would be a good addition to their potluck. He also works as an intern for the state of CA a couple days a week, so he brought a couple in for his coworkers there.

20120306-204732.jpg

These were for a surprise “baby is coming soon” party we had for a male coworker. They don’t know the sex yet and s/he is due in March, so we went with green!

20120306-210624.jpg

Made these bunco cookies for my grandma. The little guys are so fun!

20120310-074423.jpg

These cookies were for Cody’s Catholic confirmation. The silver crosses were iced first, sprayed with Wilton luster spray, then the rest of the cookie was iced.. Very carefully, haha.

There will be more cookies and other treats coming soon…

PS. I have been so busy that I didn’t have time to do St. Patty’s Day cookies. 😦

The Lorax Cookies (and Roundup!)

Ever since the first commercial I saw for the Lorax, I have been BEYOND excited for the release! My husband agreed (after much persuasion) to take me to see it on opening night (he wasn’t very excited about that). It ended up being a very late showing and I was too tired, so we waited until Sunday instead. It did not disappoint!

20120305-223550.jpg

These cookies took me a while to get to because I was waiting on my mustache cookie cutter to come in the mail. Then I was busy. Like really busy. So (finally) here are my Lorax decorated cookies!

I baked the mustaches separate and iced both cookies. I set the mustache in place on the circle so that I could mark the eye placement with toothpicks. I piped the eyes, then glued the mustache on with some frosting. Then I realized his eyes were way too small so I piped them bigger.

20120305-160924.jpg

To finish it off I colored the eyes with food color markers, added eyelids and a nose, and piped on the big bushy eyebrows!

20120305-224111.jpg

So many others have joined in the Lorax treat fun, so I wanted to do a little Lorax roundup of the things I have seen out there. Some of these ladies are SERIOUSLY talented, so if you have time you should check out their blogs/websites!

Truffula Tree Push Pops by Emily of So Domesticated. How cute are these?!

Giant Chocolate Chip Cookie by Ginny’s Cookies. Looks delicious!

Lorax Cupcakes by Hoosier Homemade. Love the bar-ba-loots!

Marshmallows by Meaghan of The Decorated Cookie. Have you ever tried drawing on a squishy marshmallow? It’s not easy! Meaghan can work these mallows like it’s nothin’. Love the 3 tiered trees!

Lorax Sugar Cookies (book version) by Paula of Vanilla Bean Baker. Look how perfect these are!

Lorax Decorated Cookies (movie poster version) by Marian of Sweetopia. I love the straws for the trees, it’s absolutely perfect! (and perfectly fluffy!)

Truffula Tree Decorated Cookies by Ellie’s Bites Decorated Cookies. So simple yet so perfect!

Lorax Cake Pops by Angie of Bakerella. I almost cried when I saw these. They are so perfect and I love them all so much! Wish I could handle a cake pop like this brilliant woman!

Truffula Tree Cupcakes by Courtney of Pizzazzerie. Perfection! She also has lots of fun party ideas whether for Dr. Seuss or anything else!

Thank you to everyone who let me link up their Lorax treats and share their pictures!

Meyer Lemon Sugar Cookies

20120218-163238.jpg

I made my usual sugar cookie recipe, with just a couple changes.

I cut the amount of vanilla in half

I added the zest from 1 meyer lemon (my lemon was pretty small)

I added the juice from 1 meyer lemon (lemon was small but had a lot of juice)

I made cookie disks like I did here, and baked for 8 minutes.

Once completely cool, I drizzled them with lemon icing:

Mix powdered sugar and a little bit of milk together with juice from a whole meyer lemon to syrup consistency.

The cookies turned out very mild lemon, but the icing was a little tart and a little sweet. They tasted light – almost like there were no calories!

Valentines Sugar Cookies

For valentine’s cookies, I always do the traditional colors, then throw in purple. This year, inspired by this beautiful set by iambaker, I decided to go light blue instead. Enjoy!

20120211-155339.jpg

Love these sweet pink and white ones…

20120211-155345.jpg

This one is my favorite!

20120211-155407.jpg

Love the little bow on this one…

Can never go wrong with sprinkles, especially festive non-pareils!

20120211-155433.jpg

My husband said the blue one below looks the yummiest… the big heart sprinkles on the pink one I found at the 99 cent store!

Under the Sea Cookies

My family loves going to crab feeds… we go to at least 3 a year.

I just recently learned that crab feeds are a Northern California thing. I had no idea that the rest of the world didn’t enjoy all-you-can-eat crab feasts like we do! I’m sorry people that live everywhere else… I feel very bad for you. A piece of my heart belongs to crab. ❤

One of the crab feeds my husband and I attend each year is put on by my mother-in-law’s church. They always have a silent auction as well as a live auction to raise money, and this year I decided to make some treats for them to auction off. (I thought it would be in the silent auction, but I was lucky enough to get my items auctioned off live. A little embarrassing because my husband’s grandpa kept trying to buy them, but I know it was out of love!)

The theme of this particular crab feed is “under the sea,” and there are cute decorations everywhere of not only crabs, but fish, frogs, and starfish. I made my cookies to match the theme.

I did shells with the same wet-on-wet technique I used here. Just do lines of icing right in the wet background…

Then trace a toothpick through to create swooshes. Technical term.

I also did some fun little bubbles…

20120207-094154.jpg

Some bright fishes…

20120207-094138.jpg

And some crabbies of course! So glad I decided to add sparkles to these guys. It really made them pop!

20120207-094146.jpg

Here they all are, ready for the auction!

20120207-094215.jpg

I also made a tray of cake pops. They’re not really anything special enough for their own post. I got a little crazy with the sparkles on these but I love how they turned out!

Football Cookies

I made these for the superbowl of course… now that our team (49ers) is not playing, I really could care less about the big game. Seriously, who wants to watch a repeat of a game from a couple years back? Not I.

My parents are throwing a small party anyway, so I offered my already-baked-up football cookies to them.

20120203-091324.jpg

These are from the last time I made footballs, which was for a baby shower back in June… I think I have improved slightly since then!

20120203-091329.jpg

Btw, this is the footballs before I added the stitching… they look like coffee beans! Future cookie idea?

Lingerie Cookies

So many people told me they love my clothing cookies I did a while back…

Well ladies…I have something new to add to your cookie closet!

I have been dying to make these ever since I bought the cutter months ago.. what better time than Valentine’s day?

Guess what? I was invited (well everyone was) to the Dollhouse Bake Shoppe Virtual Valentine’s Day Party!

Everyone “brings” something to the party, and we all get to marvel at the wonderful things others have contributed.

20120201-214518.jpg

These sassy cookies are my addition to the virtual party!

20120201-214508.jpg

Which one is your favorite?

I was favoring the sexy little number above… until I made this one lace up the sides:

I personally think it would be hilarious to tell your hubby you got him lingerie for Valentine’s Day… then see his face when you give him a cookie.

Too mean?

20120201-214513.jpg

While these wouldn’t be appropriate for kiddos, they would definitely be perfect for a bachelorette or bridal party.

I even made some little hearts to go along with them. A little bit of sparkle adds a whole lotta glam!

I can’t wait for another excuse to make more! I am really kicking myself for only baking 8 this time!

Here is a printable link!

As always, this recipe can be used for cutout cookies, rolled in balls, or dyed.
