Tool Cookies

Remember this baby shower? Can you believe that this little guy turned 1 already? Craziness how time flies!

Mama had a hard time coming up with a birthday theme idea, but somehow she thought of Tools! Perfect for him!

I am so in love with these cookies.

The colors were pulled from the plates she bought for the party.

I also made the lil guy a smash cake.

Simple and easy since it ended up like this anyway:

Blue’s Clues Party

The baby that was in the belly at this baby shower (more treats here) just turned 1!

Blue’s Clues was the theme, so we made lots of blue sweet treats!

Of course there had to be cookies. These were bagged and used as favors.

20120824-201052.jpg

I made cake pops, but we wanted them to have puppy paws on them. I came up with the idea of using an oreo pop mold that I found online. I will definitely be using this technique again!

I did the paw print darker blue. I squeezed candy melts into the paw print, then tapped the tray to settle it into the mold. This also helped get all the air bubbles out. Tapping is key! Then I put these in the fridge for a few minutes to harden up.

20120824-201106.jpg 20120824-201112.jpg 20120824-201119.jpg

With the lighter blue I squeezed a layer across the bottom of the mold. Then tap tap tap!

20120824-201130.jpg 20120824-201139.jpg

I mixed up the cake pop dough like normal, but instead of rolling it into balls I flatted it into a thick pancake and cut circles out of it with a circle cookie cutter. Then I just dropped a disk of cake into each mold and gently pressed it into the candy melts.

20120827-105944.jpg 20120827-105951.jpg 20120824-201145.jpg

Then I just squeezed more candy melts around the cake and across the top, tapped it against the counter, and popped it into the fridge to harden up.

20120824-201157.jpg 20120824-201203.jpg 20120824-201211.jpg

Once they had hardened completely (maybe 20 minutes?) they came out of the molds really easily.

Look how fancy they look!!

20120827-110051.jpg

I also made the little guy his very own smash cake… that will be forthcoming!

Blue Baby Elephant Cookies

These adorable elephants were for a baby shower!

20120813-101510.jpg

I used the same basic design as the elephants for this circus party, but in boy colors!

20120813-101327.jpg

I’m so obsessed with these I will probably do some for my own someday baby shower. (No I’m not pregnant so don’t get excited.)

Chocolate Cake Pops…

and Marshmallows!!

20120806-141059.jpg

The pink ones were pomegranate, but ended up tasting nothing like pomegranate… I will have to try again one of these days because I love pomegranate!

 20120806-141103.jpg

I decided to try a little piped swirl for these. There were going to be a lot of guests at the party so the smaller the treat the farther it goes! I decided later that I’m glad I didn’t do the swirls with the chocolate mallows ….. :-/

20120806-141108.jpg

These chocolate ones were a million times better than the first chocolate ones I made… dark chocolate is the key!

I hope the party was as fabulous as it was sweet!

Will you be my…

…flowergirl? …ringbearer?

A good friend of mine is getting married next year and wanted to do something special to ask her little ladies/gent to be her flowergirls/ringbearer. She came up with the idea of doing a large decorated cookie for each of them. I just love how they turned out!

Finally I got to make baby shower cookies for a girl!

Look at the perfection of this pink… I am obsessed.

20120713-101735.jpg

20120713-101740.jpg

I bought the little bow cutter a while back and this is the first (and perfect) opportunity to use it.

20120713-101758.jpg

I did stripes and polka dots onesies with my 2 different color pinks.

Australia Cookies

A friend/coworker’s daughter (Mallory!) is leaving for a 6-month exchange program in Australia. Her mom asked me to make her some cookies as a surprise.

20120704-115737.jpg

I used a teddy bear cutter that came in my Wilton baby set (top cookie) but I turned it upsidedown to make my koalas. Koalas have big ears ya know!

20120704-115742.jpg

To get an idea of my design, I first sketched it out on the cookie with a yellow food color marker.

20120704-115826.jpg

20120704-115831.jpg

Then I outlined all the cookies in black. I will be doing this more often, it made my life 1000 times easier.

20120704-115747.jpg

I also made some kangaroos!

20120704-115838.jpg

I teased everyone on fb with this photo of my colors… I didn’t realize how many things could be made with browns and greys until everyone started guessing!

20120704-115917.jpg

I filled in my little koalas’ bellies, chins, and ears with light grey and let it dry a bit.

20120704-115926.jpg

Then I came back and filled in the grey. The ears were tricky because I didn’t want to lose the “fluff” definition I made with my black.

20120704-115921.jpg

So cute already!

20120704-115931.jpg

Once the grey had dried a little I added some eyes and filled in the noses.

20120704-120521.jpg

The kangaroos got filled in with brown and light tan for the bellies.

20120705-081914.jpg

I added a little mouth to a couple of the koalas.

Bye Mallory!! You’re going to have an amazing time!

Peanut Butter Surprise Cookies

My brother and I love candy.

This love of candy is one of the reasons he makes an excellent Target shopping partner. (I have gone to Target with a number of different people and I have discovered that not everyone shops Target the same way. My brother and I are good together at Target because we understand the most important part of the store is the 3 aisles of candy in the far back corner near the seasonal section.)

I recently had a poll on facebook asking people to rate these in order from MOST favorite to LEAST favorite: cookies, cake, ice cream, candy, pie. (For the record, mine is 1. Candy 2. Ice Cream 3. Cake 4. Cookies 5. Pie) It was fun seeing everyone’s answers!

Anywhoo… on one of my brother’s candy trips to Target, he disovered this:

20120618-134340.jpg

It’s basically like a Hershey bar except each individual bar is a separate Reese’s.

20120618-134348.jpg

I knew I had to make something with them, and this is what I came up with!

It’s a Peanut Butter cookie dough wrapped around an individual Reese’s bar, then baked long and slow so that they are soft, chewy, and melty chocolate on the inside!

Peanut Butter Surprise Cookies – adapted from Simply Recipes

Ingredients:

1 stick butter

1/2 cup sugar

1/2 cup packed brown sugar

1/2 cup peanut butter

1 egg

1 1/4 cup flour

3/4 tsp baking soda

1/2 tsp baking powder

1/4 tsp salt

Directions:

1. Beat butter for 2 minutes. Add sugars and beat for 2 minutes more, scraping sides of bowl halfway through. Add peanut butter and egg and mix until combined. In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt. Slowly add to sugar mixture until completely combined. Let chill for at least 2 hours.

20120618-134323.jpg

20120618-134702.jpg

2. Cut apart Reeses bars. Get a ball of dough about 2-3 tablespoons and flatten with your fingers. Put the little Reeses bar inside and wrap it up all snug. I sort of rolled it into a little log shape after the bar was completely covered.

20120618-134426.jpg 20120618-134431.jpg

3. Space the cookie logs about 2-3 inches apart on a parchment lined cookie sheet, they will spread quite a bit.

20120618-134436.jpg

4. Bake at 300* for 15 minutes. Let cool for about 15 minutes on the pan before moving to a drying rack. They will come out of the oven a little poofy so they need to set and settle as they cool.

20120618-134618.jpg

20120618-134444.jpg

These might be the best cookies I’ve ever had. Especially if you eat it when it’s still warm!
