Pastel Ornament Cookies

The only ornament cutters I own are very small. I wanted a big, round, ornament cookie to decorate this year. I used my balloon cutter, and just trimmed off the pointy ends.

Inspired by these gorgeous cookies by Sweetopia, I chose to do pastel colors instead of the traditional red and green.

The tops of the ornaments just had to be silver.

I first piped them in grey, then I mixed together alcohol and silver lustre dust and painted it over the grey with a food safe paint brush. (Lemon juice can also be used in place of alcohol if there is a concern, but it all evaporates anyway.)

Though I only made a few of these, I enjoyed making each one unique!

Simple Snowman Cookies

I kept these snowmen super simple. I love the black and white simplicity of them.

20121207-083432.jpg

I outlined the hat in black buttercream, and each round section in white buttercream. (Here is my Easy Buttercream recipe.) Then I just filled each section in separately, and added some black buttercream buttons to the tummy.

Easy peezy!

These cookies are the first I have done with my new rolling technique. They’re a tad thicker than I normally do, but still thin enough that the icing is a good proportion to the cookie. All the yum without the breakage!

Next batch I bake I will take photos and share my new technique with you!

Beer and Babies

The men always get left out for the baby showers… so this grandma-to-be decided to throw her son-in-laws (both of her daughters are pregnant) their own party!

An anti-shower if you will.

(Please note that I didn’t say anti-baby. Everyone seems to think that when I say anti-shower.)

Of course there had to be beer…

And a little reminder of what these soon-to-be dads are going to be dealing with…

One daughter knew the sex and the other didn’t, so we did a combination of blue and pink… and I added one mystery baby for luck.

Enjoy the beer while you can guys!

Hope you enjoyed your party!

Logo Cookies

I made some logo cookies this week…

The logo is actually 3 separate little squares. Instead of doing larger cookies and each person only getting 1 of the 3 squares, I made them mini cookies…

And then I packaged them up cute so that each person got all 3 squares of the logo…

And they’re off to the meeting!

I Voted Cookies

Today is Election Day!

For some, it’s a day we just want to hurry up and pass because we’re so tired of the ads, the negativity, and the annoying friends on Facebook that don’t share the same views as you.

No matter what you stand for or who you darken that little circle for, what’s important to remember is that this day is about FREEDOM!

For some, just having the ability to vote is an honor. Many fought for that right so we need to take pride in it and exercise that right!

I always feel a sense of pride when I wear my “I Voted” sticker all day long. So I made it into a little cookie!

These cookies I decorated a little bit differently than normal. Mostly because I was lazy.

I also rolled the cookies thicker than normal to try a new technique. (I will get to that once I perfect it!)

Instead of outlining and filling these, I set the cookies on a cooling rack over a bowl and poured the icing over them, letting the excess drip down into the bowl. I had to tap a little and pop some air bubbles, but overall it was very fast and easy!

Normally I outline and detail in buttercream. Since I didn’t make many of these and didn’t need a lot of detail (and didn’t outline them) I decided to skip the buttercream all together and do the detailing in thick icing.

The blue didn’t turn out out great because it was a little too thin, but the red I got nice and thick and worked really well. Just killed my hand a bit. Hats off to the 100% glaze users, you have serious talent!!

I hope you took the time to vote today, no matter who or what it was for!

Anniversary Sweets

My coworker Jaz asked me to make sweets for his wife for their 3rd anniversary. He said I could make whatever I wanted! He had not yet tried my cookies, so I definitely wanted to include some cookies… and then I thought, what is more romantic than chocolate covered strawberries?! Together they would make a cute little love tray.

Here is the picture I used for color inspiration (since he had no idea what colors would be good)…

… and here are my colors. My pink came out a little more purple, but I still love how they looked together.

Here are the cookies. I stuck with hearts. Cuz they’re all lovey and stuff.

and the romantic strawberries…

On a side note, I know 3 people (they happen to all be men) who don’t like chocolate covered strawberries. Why you might be wondering? Because they don’t like strawberries. WHAT? How is that even possible? They must be aliens or something.

What a lucky lady you have, Jaz!

Scooby Doo Cookies

This may be the most intimidating set of cookies I have ever agreed to do… but it turned out one of the best!

Matthew was having a Scooby Doo party and his mom Michelle surprised him with these matching cookies!

I made Scooby faces….

Scooby Snacks (bones) which topped the birthday cupcakes (I did not make the cupcakes; mom added them when she got home).

…and Mystery Machines! These were tough and may have almost made me crazy, but all that goes out the window when they turn out so cute!

I’m so glad Michelle and Matthew loved their cookies. They’re definitely going to stick with me!

Baby Boy Cookies

I made cookies for a baby shower… the colors on the invite were grey, light orange, and baby blue.

I did the standard onesies, and tried out carriages for the first time… ya know, standard baby shower stuff… then I got it in my head to make an actual baby.

I used this design by Karen’s Cookies as my inspiration. I just LOVE the way they turned out. I don’t have the cute little baby cutter, so I used my teddy bear and cut his little ears off. The same teddy bear I used to make these cookies actually. What a versatile little fella…

I know I just posted about my favorite cookies, but I think these may have topped my list.

They took me for-e-ver… but it was worth it in the end.

P.S. Yes I know there are only 4 toes. It’s all I could fit.

Giants Birthday Cookies

Zach (who I made these cookies for last year) is now 7!

He wanted a Giants themed party, so I went to town with my baseball cutters.

I made the traditional baseballs and bats, as well as baseball hats for the first time.

Per tradition, I also made Z’s and 7’s in matching colors. Good thing it’s also Halloween season, I found these black and orange sprinkles that went perfectly with the Giants colors!

20120924-083225.jpg

The jersey cookie was made especially for Zach. As soon as I brought the cookies over, he wanted to eat it immediately! **Zach actually told me later that I spelled the last name wrong. Oops!**

I also made these awesome SF Giants colored bridges, since the “bridge” is such a huge part of San Francisco, whether it’s the Bay Bridge or the Golden Gate, or any of the others.

See that SF symbol up there? I have made them before, but this time I decided to freehand it.

I started with a basic thin line…

Then shaped around it until I had the right angles and edges!

Here are all of the cookies together, ready for the party!
