Ladybug Cookies

These cookies were for my coworker’s best friend. She had a ladybug themed birthday party!

I used my balloon cutter for these. (I also have a mini ornament that would work for mini version!)

20140518-185741.jpg I outlined them in a thick black line, then dropped a dot in the center, and another in the center of the top half.

20140518-185748.jpg First I piped the head, then I piped the wings fanning away from it. Took me a few tries to get the angles right.

20140518-185800.jpg I always fill in my black first, because it tends to be much messier if I make a mistake!

20140518-190225.jpg Then I filled in the red, with a little less icing than normal…

20140518-190232.jpg …because I dropped big black dots right into it for my ladybug’s spots.

20140518-190238.jpg Finished them off with some curly antennae, and viola! Cute little ladybug cookies.

20140518-190248.jpg Mini ladybugs would be totally cute for a little girl’s birthday!

Lacy Easter Egg Cookies

Made these for a friend’s mom for a get-together.

Even though they are pretty detailed, they didn’t take a ton of time to do. Filling the eggs with a solid color and only using one color to pipe with saves a TON of time.

20140417-082003.jpg

Each cookie is totally unique. I just made up the designs as I went, there was no template that I followed. Doing this also makes it more fun!

20140417-082009.jpg Once I was done making the cookies for the party, I had a few leftover that I played with. I really like how these “swoop” designs turned out too. And SO easy.

20140417-082020.jpg Hope everyone has a great Easter!

Spiderman Cookies

Syler is 3! (He used to be 2. Before that he was 1.)

He had a Spiderman birthday, complete with cookies!

20140221-214714.jpg

I used an Easter egg cutter, turned upside down. Outlined in black, then dotted the center for reference for my eyes. I just did them by hand, so each cookie is slightly different, but all of them look like Spidy!

20140221-214730.jpg

Filled them all in dark red…

20140221-214734.jpg

Then piped on the web design in black buttercream. I even made Syler a special “3” cookie.

20140221-214738.jpg

Syler’s sisters got their very own cookies for their ages too. I’ve made Layla cookies for her 3rd birthday and her 2nd birthday. This year I was having a baby and couldn’t make her 4th birthday cookies, or her sister Aurora’s 1st birthday cookies. I wanted to make it up to them a little bit!

Wedding Monogram Cookies

I few weeks ago I got the opportunity to make some monogrammed cookies for a wedding. Simple, elegant, white on white.

Since I do all my piping by hand, I had to be extra careful with these to make sure the monograms were centered and all the same.

I practiced on one cookie over and over (wiping off in between) until I had my spacing right. Then I put little dots where all the key parts of the center W needed to go…

20140217-151346.jpg

Then piped on the W, followed by the outer letters.

20140217-151354.jpg

The cookies were going to sit next to the cake, so no individual wrapping was needed. This is fine, except I was worried about them getting smashed too much before wedding time. Then I was told they had to travel hundreds of miles away… Eek! Last minute I found these perfect boxes and some bubble wrap and packaged them all up safely. Worked out perfectly!

Pink Lemonade Blondies

I bought this seasonal cake mix last season.

Then it sat in my cabinet…. See how dented the box is? It had been pushed around my baking cabinet for months.

I finally broke it out and made these amazing blondies. Then I typed up this post and then realized that the flavor is no longer in stores and no one would be able to make them, so I stored this recipe away until it would be relevant again. *sigh*

But now here we are and here we go! 🙂

20131111-221924.jpg

These are seriously SO easy. No mixer is needed. If you can stir some stuff in a bowl, you can make these!

Pink Lemonade Blondies – adapted from this recipe by Sally’s Baking Addiction

Blondie Ingredients:

1 box of pink lemonade cake mix (seasonal item)

1/4 cup vegetable oil

1/3 cup milk

1 egg, beaten

1/2 cup sprinkles

20131111-221931.jpg

Icing Ingredients:

4 oz powdered sugar

4 1/2 tsp milk

1 packet Crystal Light on-the-go drink mix

20131111-221941.jpg

Directions:

1. Preheat oven to 350*. Spray pan with non-stick spray. (I used an 8×8 pan, but a 9×9 would work, or even a round pan if that’s all you have.)

20131111-221936.jpg

2. Mix together cake mix, oil, milk, egg, and sprinkles. It should be thick and sticky.

20131111-221947.jpg

3. Press evenly into the pan and bake for 20-25 minutes. Remove from oven when the edges start to brown.

20131111-221954.jpg

**The center might not look fully cooked, but that’s okay.**

4. Let them cool for at least 30 minutes. (That under-cooked looking center will set up and be wonderfully perfect if you let it cool completely!)

5. Mix together powdered sugar, milk, and drink mix packet. Pour icing over blondies and spread evenly with a spatula. Let the icing set up a couple hours.

20131111-222005.jpg

6. Cut into small pieces to share, or large pieces to devour. 🙂

20131111-222015.jpg

These blondies are sweet and tart and pink and pretty. I can totally imagine them at a little girl’s birthday party!

Crab Claw Cookies

Every year I bake sugar cookies for the crab feed at my mother-in-law’s church. They host a dessert live auction. My silly grandpa-in-law bids on (and wins) them every year. Haha…

I do something different every time. You can see the past years’ cookies here and here.

This year I was stumped for an idea. UNTIL I went to another crab feed and saw these adorable headbands the volunteers were wearing. They looked something like this. I immediately knew what I was going to make and which cutter I was going to use.

Here is my sketch… Do you recognize the cutter?! It’s a Christmas light bulb!

20140206-204054.jpg

I outlined with a thick black line (buttercream)…

20140206-204046.jpg

…then filled them in with a dark bright red.

20140206-204032.jpg

These couldn’t be any easier. Which worked out well for baking with a tiny baby in the house. More time for snuggles!

Princess Baby Shower Cookies

These pretty pink cookies were for a friend’s baby shower. We learned she was baking up a little girl when I made these cupcakes.

I made babies similar to these, but knew I wanted her smiling instead of screaming.

20140126-110233.jpg

And since she is going to be the first girl baby in our group, and will be SO SO spoiled, they had to be princess themed. Diamonds and tiaras. 🙂 After outlining the tiaras, I painted them with silver luster dust mixed with a few drops of vodka. It turned them from grey to silver. Much more appropriate for princess attire.

20140126-110244.jpg

I also threw in some mini hearts because they are easy and good fillers for a party when not everyone will take a larger (normal) sized cookie.

20140126-110330.jpg

These were the first cookies I’ve made in a long time, besides my Christmas cookies. (Which, for the record, didn’t get finished… and the ones I did finish never got photographed so they never got shared. Meh.) It felt good to make cookies again, but my skills are definitely a little rusty. I’m not gonna lie – there were a lot of re-dos, and a few tears shed… and my husband standing behind me reassuring me that I’m being too hard on myself and that I’m just out of practice. *sigh* I seriously don’t know what I’d do without him. ❤

Lollipop Cookies

My second baby shower’s theme was “She is about to POP!” My girls know how obsessed with bright colors I am, so they chose bright bright shades of pink, green, blue, yellow, purple, and orange.

20130824-120456.jpg

I made cake pops and kettle corn, as well as these Lollipop Cookies. (The cake pops were funfetti, and all coated in white candy melts, then topped with bright jimmies in all the coordinating colors. I ddn’t have time time take pictures before the party, and then it was so hot outside that they all got melty and slid down their sticks. Too messy for photo taking, but still delicious!)

20130824-120431.jpg

I was feeling lazy (and crunched for time) when it came time to decorate these, so I skipped the outlining step and made the icing thicker than normal. Then all we had to do was pipe a swirl onto the cookie, and then repeat in the other colors.

20130824-120442.jpg

Once they were wrapped like lollipops they looked adorable!

20130824-120450.jpg

Even the cleanup was pretty. 🙂

What’s It Gonna Bee? [My Baby Shower]

My mommy is AMAZING. She threw a wonderful baby shower for me a couple weeks ago. When trying to find a good and easy theme, I stumbled upon “What’s It Gonna Bee?” on Pinterest. Usually this is used for gender reveal parties, but since hubby and I aren’t finding out the sex of our little one, we thought the theme was perfect.

Here is the invitation:

20130724-114840.jpg

I made the treats. People were kind of freaking out that I shouldn’t have to make the desserts for my own party, but I feel like it would have been more weird to come to a party for me and there not be Carrie’s Creations cookies!

I fell in love with this photo a while back, and if anyone knows who it belongs to please let me know! I saved the photo from a google search to my phone and the uploaded that to my Pinterest board later… but I have been unable to find it since to give credit to where credit is due.

20130724-115741.jpg

I was unable to find a cutter in this shape, but I did find this cutter made by Cristin’s Cookies.

20130724-115656.jpg

I modified the inspiration picture above to fit Cristin’s cutter shape, and I have to say – I think I like it better!

20130724-114720.jpg

I outlined the whole bee in black, then filled in each section one color at a time.

20130724-114730.jpg

In addition to the cookie favors, I made cupcakes. Lemonade Cupcakes to be exact – some of my favorite, and they fit with the warm weather (hottttt weather actually) and the yellow theme.

Here is my inspiration picture, also found through google searching, and also without proper credit.

20130724-115724.jpg

I had a hard time finding little bees for the tops. I eventually stumbled upon these sugar bees at Layer Cake Shop, and they were perfect! I piped the frosting using a basic round tip to mimic the hive look, without overdoing it on the frosting.

20130724-114703.jpg

20130724-114709.jpg

20130724-114737.jpg Here are a couple of the other details from the party:

(this shirt I made/wore)

20130724-114907.jpg (my fingernails that my bestie did for me)

20130724-114857.jpg

(the table centerpieces I made)

20130724-114833.jpg

(the drink table)

20130724-114820.jpg

(the fruit salad a family friend made – her sex vote is girl btw, haha…)

20130724-114815.jpg

(some of the other foods served, and the little tags I made.. they’re hard to see but each tag has a little bee on it similar to the centerpieces)

20130724-114825.jpg

(and one of the games we played… everyone got to make their guess, and we will just have to wait and see who gets the closest!)

20130724-114801.jpg

It was a great shower and thank you to Mommy, Sandy, and Ann for helping out!!

Cowgirl Cookies

These cookies were made for a very good friend of mine. We’ve known each other since 1st or 2nd grade. A couple years ago I “introduced” her to a coworker of mine, and they are set to be married in September!

(I’m hoping I can make it to the wedding, it’s 4 days before my due date! Either this baby needs to come pretty early or on time or late for me to be able to make it. Luckily it’s in town so even if I’m still carrying baby I should be able to make it!)

Anyway, these cookies were for her cowgirl themed bridal shower. The wedding colors are orange and deep royal purple.

Here is a pic of the invitation:

photo

I liked the brown, so I decided to go with that for my accent color on the boots.

20130724-105432.jpg

There are three kinds of flowers going to be used for the wedding: orange gerbera daisies, orange roses, and (my favorite!) tiger lilies. Unfortunately I don’t have a cutter for a tiger lily, and my only rose cutter included a stem and leaf and I didn’t want to have to mix green as well… so I went with the ever easy, ever stunning gerbera daisy.

Instead of outlining the whole flower ahead of time and filling each section individually, I decided to do the whole thing, then add the outlines afterward. I did every other petal, then came back and added the remaining petals. I used a boo boo stick (a toothpick would work) to smooth together the touching petals, then added the yellow center at the end.

20130724-105414.jpg

20130724-105424.jpg

I love how simple and fun these turned out to be!

For the party I also made cupcakes. The bride requested chocolate and funfetti cupcakes. I frosting the chocolate cupcakes (recipe here) with bright orange roses.

20130724-105620.jpg The funfetti cupcakes were frosted in a bright purple swirl. I used a brand-new homemade recipe, which will be in the next post!
