Wizard of Oz Cookies

Miss Hannah just turned 1! We celebrated Hannah at this baby shower and at this gender reveal dinner.

Her party theme was Wizard of Oz, and her mama did an AMAZING job with all the little details! Parties can drive a modern mama crazy, but once it’s all pulled together it’s spectacular!

I was up for the task of making the cookies of course. I had a hard time deciding what to make because there are so many fun ideas with this theme! I decided to go with rainbows, ruby red slippers, and a bit of yellow brick road.

Here is my progression with the rainbows… I wanted it to be as even as possible but didn’t want to have to mark out the cookie ahead of time.

I filled each rainbow color below the line it matched, if that makes sense. I started with every-other color to make sure nothing ran together while it was wet. Then I came back a little while later and did the rest.

For the yellow brick road I decided to line it all ahead of time and fill each section individually to give it dimension.

I think this was the first time I made so many colors WITHOUT making pink. It was weird. And it may never happen again. 🙂

The ruby red slippers. *sigh*

I outlined and filled in red, then added some disco dust once they were totally dry. I used a paint brush to just barely wet the top with vodka (don’t freak out, it evaporates) then sprinkled the sparkles across the cookie. Let it dry overnight, then used another dry paintbrush to brush off all the excess. There was sparkles EVERYWHERE.

Here are the finished cookies all together.

Love the dimension on the yellow brick road cookies.

It’s hard to capture just how sparkly the shoes were. I kind of want to sparkle everything now. #sparkleallthethings

So lucky to get to make these for little miss Hannah.

Now here are a couple of the other details from the party…

Stitch Fix Maternity #3

I recently received my 3rd Stitch Fix Maternity box! I was delighted to find that I loved ALL 5 items! I kept them all and enjoyed my 25% discount!

Here we go…

I absolutely love this dress. It may not be maternity but fits perfectly even with a big round belly. Fabric is so soft and so comfy.

This shirt. I love the cut in the front. So many maternity shirts are high on the neck/chest and unflattering. The ruffle is girly and cute for work but casual enough for weekends too. It’s very comfy and lots of room to grow.

This is a comfy and perfect maternity basic. It’s nice and long, stretchy, and lots of room for bumpie growth. Look how big I’ve gotten since last month!

Love this cardigan. The color is perfect for me. The fabric is soft and stretchy, and light enough for summer but perfect for indoor AC at work. We freeze sometimes at work so items like this are ESSENTIAL.

These earrings were my 5th item. I love how simple and delicate they are, but still cute and can easily go with a dressier outfit. I don’t always like to wear necklaces and so I have been trying to make an effort to remember earrings everyday.

What a successful box, right?!

Bridal Shower Cupcakes

I made some bridal shower cupcakes for a friend of a friend. Her wedding colors are coral and pewter/grey. Sounded easy enough, but when it came time to color the buttercream I realized I had no idea where to start! Thankfully Callye of Sweet Sugarbelle is an AMAZING resource for color mixing. A quick search on her blog and I had the exact answers I needed!

Here is her post on coral, and here is her post where I found the best way to get to grey.

Both were easy and took me only a second to do. No back and forth of adding colors.

Here are a couple pictures from the shower. The table set-up is so gorgeous!

Gender Reveal Party Cookies

My sweet coworker Tiffany is expecting her first baby. She asked me to make her cookies for her gender reveal party. The cookies were not doing the actual “reveal” so they just had to be blue and pink or something creative including both colors.

While racking my brain for ideas, I saw these cookies posted to Instagram. Tiffany LOVED the idea, so I went with it!

They bit into the reveal cupcake to find out that they’re having a girl!

Racecar Cookies

I bought a 3D printed racecar cutter that was going to be PERFECT for these racecar cookies for Syler’s Hotwheels party. When it came time to cut and bake the cookies, I pulled out the cutter and it had somehow gotten warped! Like unfixable, way too skinny, crooked warped.

Onto Plan B. I’ve had this 57 Chevy cutter since way back when – when I made 300 of them. It is way too long and fancy for racecars, so I had to do quite some trimming. I used my warped cutter as a reference.

I outlined in black to make the colors POP.

Then filled them in a bright blue.

I added window and tires, then red rims and a big red 4. Because Syler is 4! (Remember when he was 3? and 2? and 1?) I can’t believe I’ve had the privilege of making cookies for every birthday he’s had!

Happy Birthday Syler!
